Increasingly, people are bringing Japanese textiles for me to review. That they have stories, and want to know just what it is the person has.

Today was one such case. Below are photos of the item….a unsewn maru obi. The item was picked up during WW2 by a soldier, and given to the families grandmother. It was in marvelous condition, and the art was great. Over the years the obi had been very well taken care of, so it was in good condition. The obi is normally half the width shown, because it is sewn folded in half width.

The picture below is the backside of his obi, what would normally be the inside.
